Ceramic Coating Aftercare Instructions
Congratulations on protecting your vehicle with Gliptone's Ceramic Coating! Proper aftercare is essential to preserve the coating’s glossy finish, hydrophobicity, and long-term durability. While these ceramic coatings are highly durable, they are not maintenance-free. Following a few simple maintenance steps will ensure you continue to enjoy the maximum benefits of your ceramic coating for years. This guide outlines how to care for your coated vehicle so it stays looking its best.
Aftercare Tips:
Curing Period: The vehicle cannot get wet for 24 hours after the coating is applied. Allow the ceramic coating to fully cure for at least 7 days after application before washing with soap or other chemicals. If the car gets dirty or wet, use a soft microfiber towel to gently blot (not wipe) the surface. it is best to keep the vehicle indoors or covered if possible.
Washing Tips: When washing your vehicle after the ceramic coating it is best to use a pH-neutral car soap – harsh soaps can degrade the coating. Use the two-bucket method (one for soapy water, one for rinse) to minimize swirl marks. Use high-quality microfiber mitts and drying towels. Foam cannon pre-wash (if possible) to reduce surface contact. Wash every week, even if it looks clean, to prevent contamination build-up.
Avoid: Automatic car washes (especially brush-style). Automatic car washes can scratch and swirl your vehicles paint leaving it lookin dull. They can also deteriorate the coatings longevity. Avoid washing in direct sunlight to minimize streaking and water spotting. It is best to wash from the top down leaving the dirtiest parts of the car last. Dish soap or any degreasing agents shouldn't be necessary if you keep your vehicle clean. Dirty towels or sponges that can scratch the coating.
Drying Tips: You should use a soft microfiber drying towel or air blower. Don’t let the vehicle air dry to prevent water spotting.
Maintenance Products: Use ceramic coating-safe detail sprays or SiO₂-infused spray sealants every 4–6 weeks to boost hydrophobicity and gloss
Decontamination (Every 6 months): Use a coating-safe iron remover to eliminate embedded contaminants. Avoid using clay bars unless necessary—they can mar the coating. If needed, use a very fine-grade clay with plenty of lubrication. As a reminder it is best to avoid polishing your paint unless it is absolutely necessary.
Environmental Factors: Park in shaded or covered areas when possible. Avoid parking under trees to prevent sap or bird droppings. Remove bird droppings, bug splatter, and tree sap ASAP – they can etch the coating and clear coat.
Professional Inspection: Annual inspections are the recommended process for ensuring the coating is maintained and care for the vehicle is properly executed. It is best to consider a ceramic coating topper or inspection from your detailer every 6–12 months.
